Following a severe flooding event in Istanbul, significant cleanup and damage assessment operations are currently underway. The areas most affected, particularly Ayazağa in Sarıyer, have seen the demolition of 16 shops located along the riverbed as well as the destruction of a sports facility and its stands. Authorities are also planning a 1,700-meter river rehabilitation project to prevent future flooding incidents.
Search efforts for three individuals reported missing during the flooding are still ongoing, as the community grapples with the aftermath of this natural disaster. In a preliminary response, emergency assistance of 10,000 lira has been distributed to 52,000 residents to provide immediate relief.
Reports indicate that some districts in Istanbul experienced extraordinary rainfall, with measurements reaching up to 273 kilograms per square meter, breaking an 84-year-old record for precipitation. These extreme weather conditions have prompted a thorough evaluation of the city's infrastructure and emergency response capabilities. The situation continues to evolve as local authorities assess the full extent of the damage and the community comes together to support those affected.
