The trial of Aziz İhsan Aktaş, who is accused of leading a criminal organization that allegedly involved bribing mayors to manipulate tender processes, has garnered significant attention. Among the 200 defendants, seven mayors, three of whom are currently in custody, are being prosecuted in connection with these allegations. The court proceedings are being held at the Istanbul 1st Heavy Criminal Court, with the final ruling scheduled for June 15.
The defendants include notable figures such as Rıza Akpolat, the Mayor of Beşiktaş, Utku Caner Çaykara, the Mayor of Avcılar, and Oya Tekin, the Mayor of Seyhan, all of whom were suspended from their positions following their arrests. They attended the latest hearing, which took place in a courtroom situated opposite the Marmara Closed Penal Institution.
In addition to the detained mayors, several other defendants, including Zeydan Karalar, formerly the Mayor of Adana, appeared in court without custody.
