Following the 9-day Kurban Bayram holiday, travelers faced significant difficulties on their return journeys as traffic snarled on major highways. The Anadolu Motorway and D-100 highway were particularly affected, with key transit points in Bolu, Düzce, and Kocaeli experiencing gridlock. At the crucial 'key junction' in Kırıkkale, where 43 provinces converge, vehicles came to a standstill, adding to the frustration of holiday returnees.
Authorities reported that the heavy influx of vehicles contributed to the bottleneck, with many families attempting to return home simultaneously after the holiday festivities. Alongside the usual travel rush, accidents and road maintenance work exacerbated the situation, leading to extended delays for commuters.
As the holiday season concludes, local officials are urging travelers to plan their journeys during off-peak hours to avoid similar congestion in the future. Safety measures and traffic management strategies are also being discussed to improve traffic flow during peak holiday travel periods in subsequent years.
