Retirement Benefits Set for Significant Increase Amid Rising Inflation
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released its inflation report for September, revealing a monthly inflation rate of 1.84% and an annual rate of 29.73%. This surge in inflation has raised concerns for retirees, with economist Muhammet Bayram forecasting an average monthly inflation rate of 1.5% for the final quarter of the year. As a result, he estimates that the cumulative inflation difference over six months could reach between 10% and 12%. Bayram further noted that there is a high likelihood of pension increases for both SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees, suggesting a rise in benefits by approximately 15-20%. If this prediction holds true, the current minimum pension of 23,552 TL could see a significant adjustment, potentially increasing to as much as 28,262 TL with a 20% hike. These developments come amid ongoing discussions about the adequacy of retirement benefits in light of rising living costs. The adjustments are seen as necessary to help retirees maintain their purchasing power in a challenging economic climate. The government may also consider additional welfare support to alleviate the financial burden on retirees as inflation continues to impact everyday expenses.
