Historic Legislative Move for a Terror-Free Turkey: 360 Lawmakers Endorse New Framework Bill

In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering a terror-free environment in Turkey, a comprehensive framework bill has been submitted to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), endorsed by an impressive 360 members of parliament. This legislative proposal comprises 12 articles that precisely delineate the crimes excluded from its provisions and clarify who may benefit from deferred sentencing. The bill is set to undergo discussions in committee on Friday and will be presented for a vote in the General Assembly on Sunday. However, the implementation of this law hinges on a crucial condition: the National Security Council (MGK) must verify that all entities associated with the PKK/KCK have dissolved and that all weapons have been fully surrendered. During the disarmament process, any materials involved will be meticulously documented. Should the stipulated conditions be met, investigations, prosecutions, and final convictions related to offenses such as "establishing or leading an organization, membership, intentional assistance, propaganda, and crimes related to the financing of terrorism" will be deferred. It is important to note that this provision is limited to offenses occurring after June 1, 2005, thereby excluding any actions taken before this date from its scope.
