Designer of Gazi University Logo Seeks Trademark After 44 Years: 'I Want to Leave a Legacy for My Grandchildren'

Kenan Kökkaya, an 80-year-old designer, has taken steps to trademark the logo he created for Gazi University, drawing inspiration from Atatürk's signature. After conducting an internet search and finding no information regarding the logo's creator, Kökkaya decided to approach the university for registration. This move comes 44 years after he initially designed the logo. In 1982, Kökkaya received a plaque of appreciation from the founding rector of Gazi University, Prof. Dr. Şakir Akça, in recognition of his work. Despite this acknowledgment, Kökkaya was met with a response from the university stating that no documentation regarding the logo could be found. Determined to preserve his legacy, he hopes to have the logo officially registered in his name to ensure it can be passed down to his grandchildren. Kökkaya's initiative underscores the importance of recognizing the contributions of artists and designers, particularly those associated with significant institutions. By securing the trademark, he aims not only to honor his creative work but also to create a tangible heritage for his family.
