Deniz Yavuzyılmaz, a member of the Republican People's Party (CHP) representing Zonguldak, has brought attention to alarming discrepancies in passenger figures at Zafer Airport. Citing reports from the Court of Accounts and data from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ), he revealed that there is a staggering 96.57% difference between the guaranteed number of departing passengers and the actual figures recorded in the first four months of 2026.
Yavuzyılmaz's findings indicate that the airport's operating company is set to receive a significant payment from the Treasury, amounting to €2,225,084. This payment is a direct result of the shortfall in passenger numbers compared to the guarantees established in the contract. The discrepancies raise questions about the viability and financial management of the airport, as well as the implications for public funds.
The CHP lawmaker emphasized the need for transparency and accountability regarding these payments, calling for a thorough investigation into the operations of Zafer Airport. He argued that taxpayers should not be burdened with compensating a company for unmet guarantees and urged the government to address these issues promptly to safeguard public resources.
As the situation unfolds, Yavuzyılmaz's revelations could have broader implications for airport operations and government contracts, underscoring the importance of accurate data and accountability in public infrastructure projects.
